Botox Instructions
BOTOX® Cosmetic is a prescription medicine that is injected into muscles and used to temporarily improve the look of moderate to severe forehead lines, crow’s feet lines, and frown lines between the eyebrows in adults. Botulinum Toxin (BOTOX) Care Relaxation of the muscles begins to appear in 3-4 days and usually takes 7-14 days for the final weakness to occur. Results vary per patient and range from weakness only to complete relaxation. BOTOX® Cosmetic may cause serious side effects. Get medical help right away if you have any of these problems any time (hours to weeks) after injection of BOTOX® Cosmetic: Problems swallowing, speaking, or breathing; or spread of toxin effects. Tell your doctor about all your muscle or nerve conditions, medical conditions, and any medications you take.
POST-TREATMENT INSTRUCTIONS
For BOTOX® to evenly diffuse inside of the muscle(s), exercise your treated muscles for 1-2 hours after treatment (e.g. practice frowning, raising your eyebrows, and squinting).
For four hours after the injection:
1. Stay in a vertical position/sit upright: DO NOT bend or lay down
2. Avoid massaging the area or applying excessive pressure
3. Avoid strenuous exercise or activities
You may apply an ice or cold gel pack to the area(s) treated (avoiding pressure) as this helps reduce swelling and the potential for bruising, especially if done in the first 24 hours. This usually resolves over the course of several days. Once you have adequately cooled/iced the area(s) as instructed and any pinpoint bleeding from the injection site(s) has subsided, you may begin wearing makeup. If not otherwise contraindicated, you may take Acetaminophen (Tylenol) and/or Ibuprofen (Advil) if you experience any mild tenderness or discomfort. Avoid extended UV exposure and apply sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher).
