Squaric Acid Care

1. Keep the treated areas covered with a bandage or tape if applied at your visit. This will prevent potentially getting the medication on any unwanted skin area or eyes. Also avoid getting the treated areas moist or wet as this may spread the squaric acid to unwanted areas.

2. After having applied, you should wash it off gently with soap and water in: 6-8 hours. If you do not remove the chemical, further blistering will occur.

3. For treatment of the blister sites, cleanse daily with soap and apply Vaseline ointment and a band-aid. There may be some discomfort from the blister sites. Motrin or Tylenol may be used if needed.

At the first treatment, only a few lesions may be treated as a “test” to make sure the patient does not have a severe reaction to (this is rare). If a severe reaction does occur (large blistering, intense redness, swelling and pain), please call the office. Another treatment option will have to be used instead. If the area becomes very red, painful, and drains pus, call our office for further instructions.
